Failure of the pancreatic beta cells is a central driver in the development and worsening of type 2 diabetes. Bariatric surgery is a successful approach to reversing obesity and rejuvenating the beta cells. This session will examine how beta cells cope with obesity and respond to medications and bariatric surgery. It will then address the risks of bariatric surgery and the groundbreaking digital methods that can predict clinical remission from type 2 diabetes. Finally, it will consider the role of revisional surgery when the first procedure was unsuccessful.
