You’ve heard about estrogen’s protective effects against cardiovascular disease and osteoporosis. But did you know that estrogen is also a key signal in a cross-organ communications network that coordinates metabolic adaptations to diet, age, and exercise? This crosstalk among brain, adipose tissue and muscle is altered during the progression to obesity and thus may be a target for prevention or treatment. Speakers in this symposium will discuss a broad range of estrogen’s impacts – from intracellular signaling cascades to metabolic consequences in individuals with obesity.
