Overview and Target Audience
This symposium will introduce themes common in running existing groups and to foster enhanced skills in handling group issues. The symposium will offer both teaching and an opportunity for attendees to discuss specific group problems they are facing during a question and answer period. Individuals from any multidisciplinary specialty currently involved in running bariatric support groups would be appropriate for this session.
Participants will be able to:
1) Describe effective strategies in creating and maintaining support groups.
2) Identify patient interests and describe how these interests may or may not be feasible to incorporate into the program.
3) Explain the state of current evidence for support group attendance to patients considering or who have had bariatric surgery.
4) Understand how to get started with social media, Twitter, and Blogging
