Food insecurity is a paradox. Although it denotes unreliable access to affordable, nutritious food, it also has direct consequences for obesity, diabetes, and chronic disease management. Food insecurity is increasingly recognized by experts as a key social determinant of health, but few healthcare systems have successfully integrated food insecurity screening and treatment into clinical care. In this session, attendees will learn about novel healthcare, community, and governmental policy strategies for addressing food insecurity as part of obesity and diabetes prevention and treatment.
