Dr. Danielle Symons Downs received her PhD from the University of Florida in 2002 and has spent the past 18 years at The Pennsylvania State University. She is a Professor of Kinesiology and Obstetrics and Gynecology, Associate Director of the Penn State Social Science Research Institute, and Director of the Exercise Psychology Laboratory. Her research expertise is in designing theoretically-driven, adaptive behavioral interventions informed by systems science and the multiphase optimization strategy to promote healthy behaviors (exercise and healthy eating) and psychological well-being in perinatal women – especially those with overweight and obesity.
