This is a unique opportunity for attendees to interact with faculty in more of an informal-type instructional setting. The ASMBS is pleased to offer “Lunch with the Experts” topics at Obesity Week have a limit of 50 registrants and 1 CEU/CME credit. The facilitators for each of these luncheons will build a platform for discussion and networking and will answer any questions attendees might have.

Topic Overview:

This session will focus on the utilization of meditation and yoga for both the pre-op and post-op phases of a bariatric surgery program. The benefits of meditation and of yoga will be discussed as related to mindfulness, stress reduction and physical function, in individuals with obesity both before and after weight loss surgery. Suggestions for implementation of a yoga and meditation program will be offered, and the challenges and rewards of patient involvement in this type of program will be discussed.

  • Explain the personnel and expertise, and supplies, recommended for an inclusive yoga and meditation program
  • Recognize the potential challenges of establishing a yoga and meditation program for individuals with obesity, and obesity related medical conditions
